Our Story

Everything got cheaper. Except the price.

Where We Come From

Years in the trades taught us how corners get cut.

Before NERD, we spent years inside construction, remodeling, restoration, and painting — long enough to watch the whole industry quietly agree to a race to the bottom. Builder-grade paint specced to last exactly one lease cycle. Flips where mold gets a coat of primer instead of remediation. “Water damage restoration” that's a rented fan and a prayer. Work that photographs well on closing day and fails eighteen months later.

None of it is an accident. It's a business model: do it cheap, make it look done, be gone before it shows.

We kept a list of everything we hated about it. Then we built a company that does the opposite.

Then the Air Changed

The worst corner-cutting is the kind you can't see.

Somewhere between the wildfire summers and the orange skies, everyone learned what AQI means. People started checking air quality apps the way they check the weather — and then walked back inside and assumed the problem stayed outdoors.

It doesn't. Indoor air is routinely two to five times more polluted than outdoor air, and your home is where you do most of your breathing. Moisture sealed behind a wall, mold treated cosmetically, VOC-heavy products off-gassing through a “finished” renovation — cheap work doesn't just look bad eventually. You breathe it every day, and nobody inspects for it, because you can't see it.

That was the realization NERD was founded on: quality in a building isn't the finish. It's what's behind the walls and in the air.

So We Built the Opposite

We're called NERD because we're the ones who actually check.

New England Restoration & Design — but restoration in the deeper sense. We're not just restoring surfaces. We're restoring standards.

Corner-cutting survives on one thing: nobody measuring anything. So we measure everything. Moisture readings before and after. Air quality data on every job — documented, timestamped, and handed to you. Not reassurance. Receipts.

  • IICRC S520-guided process on every job
  • Documented before-and-after air readings — not guesswork
  • Full documentation for insurance and real estate
  • Equipment you can see: HEPA scrubbers, hydroxyl generators, thermal cameras
  • Before-and-after Davis AirLink air quality data included
The Standard

What We Refuse to Do

1

Paint over a moisture problem

Ever. Finding the source is the job; everything else is decoration.

2

Use builder-grade materials at premium prices

We name the products we use, and they're the ones we'd put in our own homes.

3

Treat symptoms

Odor, staining, and mold are outputs. We fix inputs.

4

Leave without documentation

Every job ends with before-and-after readings you can keep, share, or hand to your insurer.

5

Call it done if we wouldn't accept it in our own house

That's the inspection standard, and it doesn't flex.

Local, and staying that way.

We're based at 89 Elm Street in Epping, New Hampshire, serving New Hampshire, Maine, and Massachusetts. Small by design — small enough that the person who quotes your job is the person who answers when something matters.
